Who We Are

A Living Tradition

Echo Less Arc is a centre for Zen Buddhist practice and contemplative study in the heart of Kyoto's Higashiyama district. We welcome practitioners of all backgrounds — from those who have never sat in meditation to those who have walked the path for decades.

About Us
Our Approach

The Three Pillars of Practice

Zazen

The foundation of Zen — seated meditation that cultivates direct insight into the nature of mind and reality.

Kōan

Ancient paradoxical questions that dissolve conceptual thinking and open the practitioner to direct experience.

Satori

The moment of awakening — a sudden insight into the interconnected nature of all things, beyond ordinary perception.

“Before enlightenment, chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood, carry water.”

— Sarah M., London

“The teachings here are both ancient and immediately relevant. Roshi Mori’s dharma talks cut through the noise of modern life with extraordinary precision.”

— David K., San Francisco

“I have studied Zen in many places, but the quality of instruction and depth of silence at Echo Less Arc is unmatched. I return every year without question.”
